Las Américas, Tenerife
What it's actually like
Las Américas is the resort strip on Tenerife’s south coast, in the municipality of Arona. La Fitenia is a surf break in Playa de las Américas, with surf schools along the front and the bathing beach of Playa del Camisón just to the east. NP7’s Tenerife guide lists it as a wave spot for windsurfers: experts only, best in a westerly.
WindChaser shows no wind figures for Las Américas. The nearest model cell is about 5 km from the break, no weather station has checked it, and the record counts wind from every direction, while NP7 gives La Fitenia a window of west and south-west only. Tenerife’s usual wind is the north-east trade, the Alisio, that El Médano rides on. NP7 says Las Américas works when a westerly brings a side-shore wind from the right.
The windsurf centres are in El Médano, about 20 km east along the coast, where TWS hires, coaches and sells windsurf kit.
