Soma Bay is a bay on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, south of Hurghada, with several water sports centres along its shore, each running its own launch.
KBC Ras Soma sits directly on the sandy beach about 1 km south of the Steigenberger resort; the 7 Bft KiteHouse runs a free shuttle bus to its beach from the Soma Bay hotels; the Duotone Pro Center is at WYTE Beach; and Tornado Surf has its centre and marina at the Paradise Abu Soma resort in Safaga and takes kiters by boat to an anchorage in the bay, beside a lagoon it puts at about 2 square kilometres, mostly knee to waist deep.
The record puts every month at 65 per cent or more, and June to October are the peak: about nine days in ten clear 12 knots for three daylight hours, and September comes close to every day.
