Omaezaki is a cape in Shizuoka prefecture, on Japan’s Pacific coast, with two very different shores. On the Pacific side, facing the Enshu-nada, the waves are dynamic; on the Suruga Bay side the water is shallow and the waves calmer, and the shoreline along Prefectural Route 357 there is called Omaezaki Long Beach. The city says its wind is said to be ideal for windsurfing, and national marine sports competitions are held at Long Beach.
December to March are the windiest months. WindChaser’s record here is a 9 km model corrected by month and hour against the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Omaezaki station on the cape, 1.4 km away, which reads less wind than the model alone. In every one of those months more than half the days clear 12 knots for three daylight hours, and January is the pick, at close to three in four. The mean over those rideable hours is about 16 knots. In winter the wind blows all day and rises into the afternoon: in January about one day in two is windy at 8am and close to seven in ten by 3pm. April is next at about one day in two; July is the quietest month, at under a third. West is the most frequent wind direction at the weather station on the cape from November to May, and surf guides describe a cold, strong westerly in winter. A January afternoon here is properly powered up.

In January the wind most often sits at 12 to 15 kt (30% of daylight hours) and is over 12 kt from 8am to 6pm on at least half the days. See both charts in the full report
