Mui Ne is a beach town on the south-east coast of Vietnam, near Phan Thiet. The main beach is a gently curving, south-facing stretch of sand more than a kilometre long, with the kite schools along it. The water is mostly choppy, with small to medium waves, and the wave spots are a short drive away.
The north-east monsoon is the season, from November to March. In those months at least seven days in ten clear 12 knots for three daylight hours or more, and February is the pick at nearly nine in ten. The mean over those rideable hours sits between 16 and 17 knots. The wind builds through the morning: in January fewer than one day in five is windy at 8am, and more than eight in ten from 2pm on. July and August bring a lighter south-west season; Surfpoint puts it at 12 to 20 knots. October is the quietest month in the record, at about four days in ten. A February afternoon here is reliably powered up.
Malibu Beach, about a 15 to 20 minute drive away, is the wave spot, with the wind on or side-on.
