Lee-on-the-Solent

What it's actually like

Lee-on-the-Solent is a shingle beach on the Hampshire shore of the Solent, with a neat strip of grass in front of it and Lee-on-the-Solent Sailing Club, founded in 1907, at the east end. Windsurf Magazine’s beach guide rates it for intermediates. In May 2024 the UK Windsurfing Association ran a wing foil round from the club, with Techno, youth foil and raceboard fleets alongside.

The record counts plenty of wind all year. In every month but May more than half the days clear 12 knots for three daylight hours or more, and November is the pick at about seven days in ten. The mean over those rideable hours sits between 16 and 20 knots, highest in December and January. The share builds through the day in every month, most of all in summer, when the afternoon is far windier than the morning. ERA5, an independent model, counts fewer windy days here, so treat the record as a guide.
