Caddebostan, Istanbul

What it's actually like

Caddebostan is a neighbourhood of Kadıköy on the Asian side of Istanbul, with a shoreline on the Sea of Marmara and a popular waterfront promenade. Gazete Kadıköy describes the Caddebostan beach behind the Irmak schools as sand, on the beach and on the seabed. Bağdat Avenue, one of the city’s major shopping and dining streets, runs through the neighbourhood.

June to August is the season, and it is a light one. In August just under half the days clear 12 knots for three daylight hours or more, and in June and July about a third. The mean over those rideable hours sits at about 13 to 14 knots. It is an afternoon wind: in August it clears 12 knots at 8am on about one day in twenty, and at 5pm on just over half. The rest of the year the share runs between one day in ten and three in ten. The record is a 7 km model with three to four years behind each month and few windy hours, so read it as a guide.

Sabiha Gökçen airport is about 30 km away by road, around half an hour, and Istanbul Airport about 61 km, just under an hour.
