Per-launch tide notes

Flag Beach
Low—Mid—High—

Rock shows at low tide; at higher tides the launch area is sand, and spot guides find mid to high tide easier. Hours per tide state unknown until tide data arrives.

Tide data not yet available for this spot. The record holds wind, air and waves, not tide. Until a tide source is connected, the tables above stay empty rather than estimated. What the guide says about tide is on the next page, in words.

Rock, wind shifts & bathing zones

Every hazard on the spot page, repeated here in full. Read this before you get wet.

Conditions change. Check local rules and conditions before you ride.

Rock at low tideVolcanic rock shows between the sand at low tide, and spot guides warn that it is sharp. At higher tides the launch area is sand. Do not rig or launch near the rocks.
Bathing zonesIn a buoyed bathing zone, sport and recreational navigation and the use of any craft or floating device driven by sail or motor are prohibited. Craft must be launched and beached through marked channels. Where the coast is not buoyed as a bathing zone, the zone is taken to be 200 metres off beaches and 50 metres off the rest of the coast. Inside it no one may go faster than three knots, and the precautions needed to avoid risk to life at sea must be taken.
Wind directionA north-easterly can drop suddenly. Spot guides keep easterly and offshore winds for advanced riders only.
Sirocco and winter swellWhen the Sirocco blows, the wind switches to a strong cross-onshore from the right, with big swell and a heavy shore break. In winter, swell can make getting in challenging.
The natural parkInside the Parque Natural de Corralejo, the park plan prohibits motor vehicles and fires outside authorised places, and camping. Building stone windbreaks is prohibited; any shelter from the wind must be removable and taken away at dusk.
EmergenciesIn an emergency call 112.
Volcanic rock and the reef

At low tide volcanic rock shows between the sandy patches, and spot guides warn that it is sharp; at higher tides the whole launch area is sand. The bay is protected by reef on either side, and small waves break on a deep reef about 200 m out, up to 2 m in spring and autumn and steeper at low tide. Do not rig or launch near the rocks.

Wind shifts, bathing zones and the park

A north-easterly can drop suddenly, and spot guides keep easterly and offshore winds for advanced riders only. In a Sirocco the wind switches to a strong cross-onshore from the right, with big swell and a heavy shore break. Spain’s coastal regulations prohibit sport and recreational navigation and sail and motor craft in a buoyed bathing zone, with launching and beaching through marked channels, and, where none is buoyed, limit speed to three knots within 200 metres of a beach. The Corralejo park plan prohibits motor vehicles and fires outside authorised places, camping and stone windbreaks. In an emergency call 112.

Sources, and their limits

Where each section of this report comes from. Record is measured. Modelled is computed by a formula because no measurement exists yet; it looks like data and is not. Written is WindChaser's editorial copy, compiled from the sources below.

§WhatSourceLimit
01Kite month sharesRecordCounted at 12 kt for three daylight hours from ecmwf_ifs (ECMWF IFS HRES) at 9 km, cell 2.73 km from the spot, January 2017 to September 2026, 9 to 10 years a month, no station correction.
01Windsurf and Wing month sharesRecordCounted at 13 kt (Windsurf) and 12 kt (Wing) from the same series, by the same rule as the Kite share.
01Direction, strength, when it blowsWrittenDirection from Canary Islands Tourism and spot guides (Wind-Hounds, kiteguide.com, FuerteventuraPlayas). Strength and time of day read from the record.
02The month’s recordsRecordA 9 km global model, not a station. Not checked against a weather station or a second model: treat the shares as a guide.
03Stays, schools and kitWrittenConfirmed on each business’s own website. No price band on the listings; the cost tier reads the Flag Beach centre’s published course prices.
04Tide windowsMissingNo tide source in the pipeline. The section renders its empty state.
05Hazards, rock, wind shifts and rulesWrittenBathing zones read first hand in Real Decreto 876/2014, article 73; the park rules in the Corralejo park plan, article 26. Physical hazards from spot guides, not surveyed. Whether the launch lies inside the park boundary is not confirmed. No kite zone instrument found.
06Airports, access, packing, kite sizesWrittenRoad distance from OSRM routing. Water temperature and wetsuits from spot guides, not measured. Sizes derived from the session mean.
MapsMissingNo drawn maps for this spot. No surveyed coordinates for the launch.

The record

Hourly wind, 2017 to 2026, from ECMWF IFS HRES via Open-Meteo: a 9 km grid, read at the cell 2.7 km from the spot. It knows the wind over the cell, not the gust on the sand in front of you, and it knows the bearing, not the coastline: "side-onshore" is a rider's reading of the bearing. Each month is counted over nine to ten years.

What we could not source for Flag Beach, Fuerteventura

Crowds by month. A published rental price. Whether the launch lies inside the Parque Natural de Corralejo, and any kite zone or launch channel for this beach from La Oliva or the harbour master. A water quality classification, and a first-hand reading of the local vibe. Tide tables and per-launch tide windows. A station check on the wind record. A surveyed launch position. Where any of these is missing above, the section says so rather than filling itself.

Conditions change. Check local rules and conditions before you ride.
