Flotation vest and designated areasThe audit guide of the Chamber of Diving and Water Sports says the brochure provided to practitioners includes awareness of the importance of using a flotation vest (mandatory for practising the activity), following the instructions and guidelines for the activity explained by the service providers, and staying within the area designated for practising the activity and shown on the map.
Tide and the empty lagoonKBC says the tide moves the water in its lagoon by 20 to 70 cm. In summer, especially around the full moon, the lagoon can be completely drained for several hours, and KBC says riders can then kite only behind its reef. KBC says its rescue boat is always available in case you need help.
Centre riding areasNo town or governorate zoning order for kiting in El Gouna was found. Each centre runs its own riding area. Ask your centre for its area and its map before you ride, and stay inside it.
The reef and the deeper water

The lagoons have a sandy bottom, and the reef lies beyond them with deeper water outside. When the summer tide drains KBC’s lagoon, riders go out beyond the reef, where KBC keeps its rescue boat. Ride beyond the reef only where your centre allows it.

The tide and the centre areas

The tide moves the water in KBC’s lagoon by 20 to 70 cm, and in summer, especially around the full moon, it can drain the lagoon completely. Makani says its lagoon stays shallow whatever the tide. Each centre runs its own riding area; the brochure the Chamber of Diving and Water Sports’ audit guide describes calls a flotation vest mandatory for the activity, and covers staying within the area designated for it and shown on the map.
