Per-launch tide windows

Kite lagoon (Harry Nass Centre 1)
Low—Mid—High—

One guide says tides limit the kite lagoon to about four hours a day in summer and that the water is usually high enough in winter; that guide predates the current centre layout. Another says kiting inside the lagoon is possible at any tide. No tide data is held.

Area 1 windsurf lagoon
Low—Mid—High—

The centre describes wing foiling here as independent of tides. No tide data is held.

Area 2 and Area 3 (Harry Nass Centre 2)
Low—Mid—High—

No guide ties these areas to the tide. No tide data is held.

Blue Lagoon, Abu Galum
Low—Mid—High—

The guides describe the lagoon as knee to hip deep. No tide data is held.

Tide data not yet available for this spot. The record holds wind, air and waves, not tide. Until a tide source is connected, the tables above stay empty rather than estimated. What the guide says about tide is on the next page, in words.

Zones, reef & offshore wind

Every hazard on the spot page, repeated here in full. Read this before you get wet.

Conditions change. Check local rules and conditions before you ride.

Kite and windsurf zonesThe Harry Nass centres publish these area rules: windsurfing is not allowed in the kitesurfing lagoon, kitesurfing is not allowed in Area 1 or in Baby Bay, kitesurfing is only allowed leeward of Area 2, where advanced kiters can kite defensively to leeward of the windsurfers, and kitesurfing is allowed in Area 3. For safety reasons and because of the offshore wind, they advise kiting outside only with affiliation to their station and using their radio rescue service (walkie-talkies), which they say is especially important for the wave in Area 3. Ask your centre for its area map before you ride.
Flotation vest and designated areasThe audit guide of the Chamber of Diving and Water Sports says the brochure provided to practitioners includes awareness of the importance of using a flotation vest (mandatory for practising the activity), following the instructions and guidelines for the activity explained by the service providers, and staying within the area designated for practising the activity and shown on the map.
Offshore windThe wind blows cross-offshore, so it can be difficult, even for experienced kiters, to cross back to the station when the wind drops. Harry Nass says it is important for independent kiters who want to kite outside the lagoon to do so with affiliation to its station and with its walkie-talkies. Without affiliation to its station, use of its beach, the station and its facilities is not possible.
Reef and sea urchinsThe Napoleon Reef separates Areas 2 and 3, and reef lies beyond the lagoons. At the Blue Lagoon the surrounding reef has sharp rock and sea urchins, and booties are recommended. Shoes are recommended in the kite lagoon and Area 1. Stay clear of the reef.
Gusts near the hotelsNear the shore at the kite lagoon the wind can be turbulent in the cover of the hotels. Launch and land where your centre shows you, and expect a small wind shadow close in.
Remote Blue LagoonThe Blue Lagoon is remote and is usually reached by jeep to the Blue Hole and then boat, or by camel. Take water and what you need for the day, ride where the school on site advises, and arrange your return trip before you go.
Reef and the Napoleon Reef

The lagoons behind the sand spit are shallow. Reef lies beyond them, and the Napoleon Reef separates Area 2 from Area 3, where swell of up to 3 m runs outside. The reef around the Blue Lagoon has sharp rock and sea urchins, and booties are recommended there. Shoes are recommended in the kite lagoon and Area 1. Stay clear of the reef.

Offshore wind outside the lagoons

Harry Nass describes the wind as cross-offshore and ION Club as predominantly offshore. Inside the standing areas you can walk back. Outside the lagoon it can be difficult, even for experienced kiters, to cross back to the station when the wind drops, so Harry Nass advises kiting outside only with affiliation to its station and using its radio rescue service.

Sources, and their limits

Where each section of this report comes from. Record is measured. Modelled is computed by a formula because no measurement exists yet; it looks like data and is not. Written is WindChaser's editorial copy, compiled from the sources below.

§WhatSourceLimit
01Kite month sharesRecordCounted at 12 kt for three daylight hours from ecmwf_ifs at 9 km, cell 1.62 km from the spot, no correction.
01Windsurf and Wing month sharesRecordCounted at 13 kt (Windsurf) and 12 kt (Wing) from the same series, by the same rule as the Kite share. No longer the Kite share raised to a curve (WC-024 phase 4).
01Speed bands, hour-of-day sharesRecordCounted from the same hourly series as the shares: daylight hours in each 4 kt band, and the share of days over the threshold at each hour from 8am to 6pm. The same charts as the spot page.
01Direction, strength, when it blowsWrittenFrom school and spot guides, cross-checked against the record's predominant direction (N in every month).
02The month's recordsRecordMonth detail. ECMWF IFS HRES at 9 km, the cell 1.6 km from the spot; wind near the mountains and hotels can differ from it.
03Stays, schools and kitWrittenChecked on each business’s own website or a named rider source, most recently on 27 September 2026. Price bands only where a price is published.
04Tide windowsMissingNo tide source in the pipeline. The section renders its empty state.
05Zones, flotation vest, offshore windWrittenZones from the Harry Nass centres' own area rules; vest and designated areas from the CDWS audit guide. No Egyptian law on zoning read. Locations described, not surveyed.
06Airports, access, packing, kite sizesWrittenSizes are derived from the guides' warm-season range, not a fitted quiver. Water temperature is from guides, not the record.
06Blue Lagoon rulesMissingNo rule of the Abu Galum Protected Area on kiting could be read from a primary source.

The record

Hourly wind, 2017 to 2026, from ECMWF IFS HRES via Open-Meteo: a 9 km grid, read at the cell 1.6 km from the spot. It knows the wind over the cell, not the gust on the sand in front of you, and it knows the bearing, not the coastline: "side-onshore" is a rider's reading of the bearing. Each month is counted over nine to ten years.

What we could not source for Dahab

Tide tables for the lagoons. Any Egyptian law, governorate order or protected area rule on kite and windsurf zoning in Dahab or at the Blue Lagoon. Windsurf and wing thresholds run through the hourly record. Price bands for the hotels and centres. Coordinates for the launches. Where any of these is missing above, the section says so rather than filling itself.

Conditions change. Check local rules and conditions before you ride.
